Media literacy
The information I felt most important from the two videos were; media literacy is about accessing it and creating it and audiences are targeted by different advertisers because they know other people have different points of views and opinions. Another important point mentioned in the videos was that all media messages are organized to gain profit and or power. These are important points because it gives the audience an insight on what media studies is and what its all about, and it also addresses the fact that different ads attract different audiences. One important point associated with the first video was "The goal of most corporations, including those that own media, is to make money above anything else." This is a very interesting slide show, and you have made a lot of good points revolved around the topic of sexual images. I would not change anything.
ReplyDeleteGood examples for showing off what you personally think is too far for sexualization in commercials. I think that you should've talked more about which parts you personally thought were acceptable in these ads. I can assume commercials being intentionally shocking is your limits for this kinda thing.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you when you say that you found the Guess commercial the most disturbing of the examples you chose. Especially since watching "Miss Representation," my whole perspective of Guess as a company has changed. It makes me sad how we can move forward and make gains in the gender debate and then still have mindsets like the people who design these ads.
